What starts as a search for a healthier alternative to their children's chocolate spread, grows into a strong and beloved brand in the supermarket. No Sugar Daddies began in their own kitchen and was then produced by a smaller manufacturer, but to continue growing, a professional production step was necessary. It was at that point our paths crossed.

The idea

Children would most like to live on sandwiches with towering mountains of chocolate spread, and then run around the house bouncing. Henk Jan and Jurrian recognised this familiar scene with their own children. Only… most chocolate spreads contain a tremendous amount of sugar. That's why they decided to develop a healthier and at least as tasty alternative themselves. After a great deal of testing and tasting, No Sugar Daddies was created: a chocolate spread without added sugars, made from dates, sunflower seed oil, hazelnuts and, of course, lots of cocoa.

No Sugar Daddies uses whole dates to create a healthier, yet just as delicious chocolate spread. Dates naturally contain sugars, but are also packed with fibre. Because the dates are processed whole, this fibre is retained, and the natural sugars are absorbed more gradually. This means better digestion, a less significant blood sugar spike, and therefore less of a sugar rush. In short: a more nutritious chocolate spread that is also incredibly tasty!

The first jars of chocolate spread were simply made in their own kitchen. When the reactions were so positive that people from their entire network enthusiastically joined in, they moved to a larger production kitchen to make small batches. That was perfect for the initial phase, but it soon became clear that they were hitting the limits of capacity and expertise. To truly make the move towards retail, professional production was necessary.

Through their network, they came across Holland Special Foods. “There, we found exactly what we were looking for. Not just a producer, but a partner who genuinely wants to think along with you throughout the entire process. Together with HSF, the recipes were further refined. We literally stood together in the factory to test, taste, and optimise, ensuring that the flavour and texture remained perfect even with larger batches. Additionally, they assisted in professionalising the complete production process: raw material management, food safety, quality controls, and efficient production on a larger scale.".

They now simply send in their orders, and we take care of the full production and management of all raw materials. This allows NSD to fully focus on growth and the further development of their brand.

The growth is now clearly visible: No Sugar Daddies was initially delivered by cargo bike to a few organic shops and is now available in most Albert Heijn stores across the Netherlands. A beautiful milestone that results from a successful collaboration.
